Our Story


Wild Gold started with a weekend away in York. We walked into a small bar after a boozy dinner and asked what they had on. They mentioned something called mead. Neither of us had heard of it: honey, water, and yeast. 

We gave it a try, sat down with a glass, and were genuinely surprised. It tasted great, light, slightly sweet, but not at all like other drinks behind the bar. Just real ingredients and something that had (amazingly) passed us by in our university days.

And it got us thinking: why is alcohol like this so hard to find? You pick up most drinks now and the ingredient list is long and full of things that you’ve never heard of before - artificial flavours, preservatives, sweeteners.  And that’s if they even have the ingredients on the pack (but that’s for another post…)

This was clean. Simple. And it felt like a bit of a secret.

Back home, the idea stuck. I started researching how to make mead and we began working on something that took that same idea - alcohol from honey - but turned it into a light, sparkling drink that felt more modern.

After a few months of late nights, boozy sampling sessions, and going back and forth on names, Wild Gold was born: a sparkling honey spritz made from fermented honey.

No added sugar. Nothing artificial. Just something refreshing, natural, and easy to drink.

We’re the first to do a Spritz this way - 100% of the alcohol comes from honey. It’s taken time (and so many mistakes), but we’re proud of where we’ve got to.
